NEW DELHI: With the UK Parliament set to debate the protection of farmer protesters on Monday, British Excessive Commissioner to India Alex Ellis mentioned the protest was an inside challenge of India.
“The farmer protest is an inside challenge of India but it surely has a ripple impact within the UK because of the massive Indian diaspora. I believe the overseas secretary (Dominic Raab) mentioned it when he was right here that ‘your politics is our politics’. In different phrases, issues that occur in India have ripples within the UK partly as a result of you’ve gotten such a giant diaspora neighborhood within the UK, so these items get debated,” he mentioned on Friday.
“Our prime minister (Boris Johnson) was requested about it truly within the Prime Minister’s Query Time.”
Ellis added that the problem was India’s to resolve. British MPs will debate the press freedom and security of protesters in India in response to an e-petition which had crossed the 1,00,000-signature threshold required for such a debate.
